Boston Marathon Runners Fuel Up On Carbs At Festive Pre-Race Pasta Dinner

BOSTON (CBS) – City Hall Plaza was filled up Sunday with marathon runners filling up on carbohydrates at a pre-race pasta dinner.

The dinner is a tradition for marathoners carbo-loading to fuel their 26.2-mile run Monday.

WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reported that this year's dinner was something more. More pasta and more people fueling their psyches along with their bodies as the festive atmosphere helped with pre-race jitters.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh dropped by to help scoop pasta for some of the runners.

"There's a lot of excitement here today," he mayor said. "Everybody's excited about running tomorrow – a lot of inspiration here. It's great for the city. I'm proud to be mayor and proud of the city."

Those kinds of positive vibes were infectious as runners gathered on the plaza.

The marathon's executive director, Tom Grilk, told the crowd "You own this. After a year of being Boston Strong, you will now be runner strong."
