BOSTON (CBS) — Family, friends and colleagues gathered Tuesday to pay their respects to one of the firefighters lost in the Beacon Street fire.

A wake was held for Boston Fire Lt. Ed Walsh at St. Patrick’s Church in Watertown. An estimated 1,000 Boston Firefighters and 4,000 other first responders from across the nation attended the wake.

Lt. Walsh’s funeral will be Wednesday morning.

Walsh and firefighter Michael Kennedy died last week while fighting a fire inside a brownstone.

The wake for Kennedy is Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Murray Funeral Home on Centre St. in West Roxbury. His funeral will be on Thursday at Holy Name Church at 11 a.m.

A fund has been established to help the families of the two firefighters. Donations may be made at the credit union’s website, www.bosfirecu.com, or by mailing checks to the fund care of the Boston Firefighter’s Credit Union, 60 Hallet St., Boston MA 02124.
