Fresh Cut: Jonny Gomes Shaves Off Beard

BOSTON (CBS) - "Ironsides" is gone.

After giving his famous beard a trim earlier this week, Red Sox outfielder Jonny Gomes had it completely shaved off on Wednesday. Chances are, you might not recognize him without the furry face.

Gomes appeared on Fox News' Fox & Friends, where Boston College alum Elisabeth Hasselbeck had the honors of giving him the clean shave he wanted prior to the 2014 season getting underway.

Gomes gave his mane a trim using a new Norelco laser-guided trimmer on Monday, and by using Norelco razors to complete the job on Wednesday he earned a $10,000 donation from the company to the Travis Roy Foundation. The foundation, set up by the former Boston University hockey player who was paralyzed on the ice in 1995, helps spinal cord injury survivors and funds research into a cure.

Gomes now joins the majority of his teammates who have clean-shaven faces for the 2014 season. Mike Napoli remains one of the only holdouts, and has no plans to shave off his beard.
