BOSTON (CBS) – Did you like what you saw in Danny Amendola this year? You better have, because he’s under contract for four more seasons.
The slot receiver that was supposed to be the younger, better Wes Welker struggled to stay healthy and produced just 54 catches for 633 yards and 2 touchdowns in the 2013 regular season.
And when the bright lights shined even brighter in the postseason, the 5’11” Amendola came up small, totaling just 3 receptions in the team’s two postseason games, including 1 target and zero catches in the AFC Championship Game in Denver.

Can the Patriots part ways with Amendola? What would the salary cap ramifications be?
Despite the lack of production and inability to stay on the field, Scott Zolak think it’s too early to give up on him.
“I don’t think he played himself off the roster. I think he’s a part of it, he’s not the main piece. I’d like to see them pay [Julian] Edelman – nothing crazy, but a fair contract. I think [Aaron] Dobson is going to be better, and I think Amendola will fit in somewhere,” said Zo.
“I thought he was really really good in that Miami road game that they lost. I still think he should have came down with that catch in the endzone – he had both hands on it. Imagine if he caught that how we would view Danny Amendola: you’d probably be playing the AFC Championship at home.”
Despite his near-heroics in the Miami game and his drop against Denver in the postseason, Zo thinks Amendola will clean up some of those mishaps given another offseason with Tom Brady.

“The Patriots are not done with him yet, because when he’s right he’s pretty damn good,” Zo concluded.
Gresh thinks Amendola battled through injury all year and he’s too talented a player to to give up on. However, if the Patriots want to then they can.
“I don’t think Amendola should go, but I understand the discussion. They built the contract well enough that if they wanted to cut ties then they could.”
