Rondo Out For Celtics vs. Wizards

BOSTON (CBS) -  With Wednesday night being the second half of a back-to-back for the Boston Celtics, Rajon Rondo will get the night off.

Rondo just returned from an ACL injury that kept him on the sidelines for nearly a year last Friday, so his leash is extremely short. He played 26 minutes on Tuesday night in Boston's 93-86 loss to the Miami Heat, the most he's played in his three games back, so the Celtics don't want to risk their star point guard playing back-to-back nights less than a week after his return.

While the Celtics are exercising extreme caution with Rondo, the move will leave them a little shorthanded at the guard position on Wednesday. Avery Bradley is said to be out for a "couple of weeks" after suffering an ankle sprain on Tuesday, and guard Jerryd Bayless is out 7-10 days with a toe injury.

That will leave Boston with a potential starting backcourt of undrafted rookie Phil Pressey and former D-Leaguer Chris Johnson, who scored 11 points against the Heat in his Celtics debut on Tuesday. Vander Blue, who signed a 10-day contract with the Celtics on Wednesday, could also get plenty of play against the Wizards.

Forwards Jeff Green and Gerald Wallace are also options for Brad Stevens at the guard position on Wednesday night.
