Norwell Teen Charged With Making Explosives

NORWELL (CBS) --- A 15-year-old is facing charges after police say he made homemade explosives and detonated at least one in his backyard.

Around 3 p.m. Saturday, police were called after neighbors heard a loud explosion near Grove Street.

Authorities found a hand-made explosive had been detonated behind a Grove Street home and other explosive devices were being stored in a shed on the property.

Police say the teen's parents were not home at the time.

The State Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene to dismantle the stored explosives.

One of the devices was moved to a remote location and detonated by state troopers.

No one was injured. The 15-year-old has been charged with twelve counts of unlawful possession of an explosive device, possessing components to create an explosive device, and one count for detonation of an explosive device.His name has not been released because he is considered a juvenile.
