Penn. Pastor Defrocked Over Son's Gay Wedding In Mass. Offered New Job
BOSTON (CBS) --- The Pennsylvania Pastor defrocked after officiating his gay son's wedding in Massachusetts, has been offered a new job.
Frank Shaefer has been invited by a California Methodist Bishop to serve in her region.
Schaefer says he's thinking about it and leaning toward the new offer.
The Bishop does not have the power to restore Schaefer's ministerial credentials but he would have most of the same rights and responsibilities as an ordained minister.
Last week, Schaefer was told to resign from the clergy if he could not follow the denomination's Book of Discipline.
But Schaefer has said the book discriminates against gay people and vowed that he would not voluntarily surrender his credentials.
