Wednesday's Child: National Adoption Day

BOSTON (CBS) - There are some wonderful success stories today, during National Adoption Month. Two of our Wednesday's Children joined 38 other Mass. kids who were formally adopted. Jack Williams introduced us to Princess in 2011 and to Zoey the following year. Both girls were profiled on Jack's weekly news feature about children who need loving homes.

Friday in a Worcester courtroom, after a long haul for both girls, their adoptions became final. Cheers erupted as the judge intoned, "It is therefore decreed that the petition is hereby allowed." And that meant Zoey officially had a family. "A happy day because I have a family that cares about me," she said.

Zoey's family is now Donna and Charles Snyder. "Joy, joy to have her come live with our family," Charles said. "I can't take away her past, her pain, but I just want to do whatever I can to make every day happy for her," adds Donna Snyder.

More cheers when Princess legally joined the family of Kristin and Mark Wilson. "We brought our own little princess into our home," says Mark. "It's been a long journey. You look back and it's been a really good year. I'm very happy," says Donna.

Another Wednesday's Child was a special speaker at today's ceremonies, talking about her road to adoption. Seventeen year old Ashley Garcia Rivera thanked her adoptive mother, saying she loves her to the moon.

You can see Wednesday's Child every Wednesday during WBZ-TV's 6pm newscast.
