The rolling rally will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday from Fenway Park, go down Boylston Street and end with a splash in the Charles River.
“Return to the river, we want to go into the dirty water,” Mayor Tom Menino said.
The Red Sox clinched the World Series championship, with a 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 at Fenway Park.
Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino said Saturday was chosen for the parade so parents can bring their children.

Lucchino said the Red Sox anticipate most of the team to take part in the parade.
“This team knows its place in the city and what the fans mean to the city. They are coming to this rolling rally to thank you guys,” Sox Chairman Tom Werner said.
THE WALKOFF: Red Sox Complete Improbable Turnaround
Boston Duck Tours said on Twitter immediately after the game that the parade would be held on Saturday, although the city did not immediately confirm the day or provide other details.

The Red Sox, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins and New England Patriots have all celebrated championships in the past ten years by climbing aboard the amphibious vehicles that are normally used to show tourists around the city.
Menino said public safety officials will meet Thursday afternoon to consider safety measures that will be in place Saturday.
When asked if the mayor would be on one of the duck boats, he said no.
“I’ve never rode in a duck, I’ll never ride in a duck,” Menino said. “This is about the players, not the mayor.”
