Investigators Return To Site Of Molly Bish's Remains

PALMER (CBS) – For her family it's hallowed ground off West Ware Road in Palmer, the area where Molly Bish's remains were found ten years ago.

Now just yards away are signs of new development moving in.

"I was concerned they might excavate and find some of Molly's bones," said her sister Heather.

It's why her Heather Bish is revisiting the site after realizing what was happening on the newly purchased land, in hopes that it could yield new clues in the still unsolved case.

Workers digging to ready the area for a new racetrack are being educated by investigators on what to look for.

"Just to let them know what Molly was wearing that day, that only 26 of 206 bones were recovered, so they know if they come across something that could be relevant to the case," Heather Bish said.

A pink tank top and plaid shorts she was wearing the day she disappeared have also not been recovered. Molly Bish was 16 years old when she disappeared from her lifeguard post in Warren in June of 2000.

Her killer has never been found, though Rodney Stanger a convicted murderer now serving time in Florida, is a person of interest. At the site in Palmer cadaver sniffing dogs were brought in by state police investigators for another search.

"It's a good time because of the work in the area they know the scent if anything is in the air," Bish explained.

The landscape may change, but the developers are promising to be respectful by erecting a permanent memorial once the racetrack is complete.

"We're so fortunate that people care so much about our Molly that they give us what gifts they can," said Bish.

Workers have been instructed if they uncover anything to mark it and contact investigators.
