CBS' Jason LaCanfora On Adam Jones Show: Will The Patriots D Be Better?

BOSTON (CBS) - There has been much made over the Patriots new-look offense, with all the new pieces for quarterback Tom Brady to work with.

But what about the defense? While they have been stellar at stopping the run, the secondary has been a huge problem for the Patriots  -- ranking near the bottom of the NFL in passing yards allowed each of the past three years.

CBS NFL Insider Jason LaCanfora joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's The Adam Jones Show on Friday night, and said while there should be some improvement on the defensive side, the Patriots offense can still make up for any deficiencies.

"They got pretty young pretty quickly. They went from a unit that was trying to keep Rodney [Harrison], Junior [Seau], Tedy [Bruschi] for another year to really devoting a lot of young assets via draft picks to that side of the ball. They've missed on a few at corner and safety but they've hit on a few too," said LaCanfora. "There is still [Vince] Wilfork there anchor things, and with the way they can run the ball and the way Brady can pass the ball, they don't have to be great. They just have to make a few stops, create a few turnovers and they can bend and not break. If they're forcing teams to put 12-13 plays together before they can get down field sometimes that's all they really need."

"Are they going to win the Super Bowl, I don't know. I know it's Super Bowl or Bust in Boston, but they're a damn good football team and they don't have anyone in that division that can play with them," he said. "They'll have [the AFC East] tucked away by Thanksgiving and we'll see what happens in the playoffs."
