BOSTON (CBS) — Tim Tebow was deemed by the Patriots to not be one of the 53 most important players on the roster, yet he remains the man who generates the most attention of anyone else on the team.

That continues to be the case even though Tebow was released on Saturday, and it may remain the case a little while longer.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked Monday if the door was open to a potential return of Tebow to the team.

“Yeah, I don’t know what’s going to happen during the year. Certainly we’ve had a lot of players that have left here and come back here. That’s already happened multiple times this year,” Belichick said.

Earlier on Monday, the Patriots re-signed cornerback Marquice Cole, just hours after releasing him on Sunday night.

Tebow cleared waivers over the weekend, meaning no other team claimed the 26-year-old who was underwhelming in his three preseason appearances for the Patriots. He went 11-for-30 for 145 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while running for 91 yards on 16 carries.

As for the decision-making of Belichick, the head coach laid it out in simple terms.

“We want to win. That’s what we’re here for,” Belichick said. “We kept the players that we feel give us the best chance to be competitive this year, and that’s what our job is.”

The coach also said he expects several more roster moves to be made in the coming days.

“There’s probably going to be roster moves over the next few days. I don’t even know what they are, but it’s just that time of year,” Belichick said. “Between the practice squad and the roster, there’s a lot of transition so I don’t know, could be.”
