NH Collision Kills Maine Couple

BARRINGTON, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire police are investigating a late-night crash in Barrington that killed an elderly couple from Maine.

State police say a pickup truck driven by 48-year-old John Shaw of Barrington crossed the center line on Route 202 at about 11:35 p.m. Saturday and struck an oncoming vehicle driven by 77-year-old Joel McLain of Biddeford, Maine.

Authorities say McLain died at the scene. His passenger, 77-year-old Maxine McLain, was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where she later died of her injuries.

Shaw was ejected from his vehicle and taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators say it's unclear why Shaw's pickup truck veered into oncoming traffic. The accident remains under investigation.
