Somerville Hit By 2 More Fires A Week After Reward Announced

SOMERVILLE (CBS) - Two early morning fires on Wednesday have been added to the list of incidents Somerville investigators are looking to solve, after a long summer of constant fires.

Firefighters were called to Bromfield Road around 5:30 a.m. where flames broke out on or near a couch sitting on the front porch of a multi-family home.

Then, about 15 minutes later, less than a mile away on Summer Road, a parked car ignited and the fire quickly spread to the exterior of two homes.

Fortunately no one was hurt in either fire.

"They have a lot of work to do. They have to interview everyone that lives in the buildings, anybody that saw anything, go back and listen to the [911] tapes; there's a lot of stuff they have to do. Any ruling [on the cause of the fires] would be premature at this point," said Fire Chief Kevin Kelleher.

Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone announced a $15,000 reward last week for information leading to the arrest of whoever is responsible for at least three arson fires.

Three additional fires were ruled suspicious prior to Wednesday morning's incidents.
