Oxford Diner Owner Says Veteran, Service Dog Not Welcome In Restaurant

OXFORD (CBS) --- James Glaser survived 21 years in the Air Force and 2 tours in Iraq.

Today, he says he can't get through the simplest tasks without the support of his loving therapy and service dog, Jack.

"When I start having night sweats and tremors and nightmares, he'll actually jump on top of me and wake me up."

But when Glaser brought Jack to Big I's Diner in Oxford, co-owner Russell Ireland says he felt the dog was too close to the kitchen, so he told Glaser to leave.

"He told me to 'get that effin' fake service dog out of here.'"

Glaser says he showed the dog's certification papers, but that didn't help.

"I walked out and called the cops." Now he's filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Ireland says he was stressed out, and snapped, in part, because he was having a bad day.

"I want to apologize to any veterans that I might have offended," he says.

At the same time though, he says Glaser and Jack are still not welcome in his diner.

"This is a post-traumatic stress dog to give him emotional support. How much emotional support do you need when you're eating breakfast?"

Glaser is organizing a protest and urging the public to boycott the diner.

"As far as I'm concerned, I don't want him to get a single cent from anybody in this United States."
