Bulger waived his right to have the jury decide whether he must forfeit the $822,000 in cash, guns and personal possessions found in his Santa Monica hideaway when he was captured in June 2011 after 16 years on the run.

But, in a court filing released Monday, it was revealed Bulger wants to hold onto just one item - a 1986 Montreal Canadiens Stanley Cup ring.

It still remains in government possession and there's no guarantee Bulger will get it back.

The ring falls into a category of property that gives the government the right to go after it eventually.

It's not clear yet if federal prosecutors will.

If Bulger is found guilty of racketeering, the government has said it plans to collect as much of his assets as it can, and return it to "innocent victims."

The ring is believed to have once belonged to Chris 'Knuckles' Nilan, who was once married to the daughter of Bulger's ex-girlfriend Teresa Stanley.

According to the Boston Globe, Nilan gave his ring to his father, and "some speculate" it may have ended up with Bulger.
