Winthrop Teen Accused Of Punching Disabled Man, Faces Hate Crime Charges
BOSTON (CBS) - A Winthrop teenager is facing hate crime charges for allegedly attacking a developmentally-disabled man.
Anthony Gallo, 17, was charged with assault and battery and causing injury while violating a person's civil rights
Police say the 59-year-old victim was on Pauline Street in Winthrop on August 6 when he saw Gallo and other teenagers drinking in a parking lot and shaking a car.
The victim confronted the teenagers, sparking a verbal altercation.
Gallo allegedly made remarks about the victim's disability before punching him in the face and breaking his jaw.
Police used nearby surveillance cameras and witnesses to help identify Gallo as a suspect.
Gallo is out of jail, but has been ordered to stay away from the victim.
