Lawrence Woman Accused Of Leaving 7-Year-Old Alone At NH Mall

SALEM, NH (CBS) - A Lawrence woman is facing child endangerment charges after police say she left a 7-year-old boy to wander around the mall for four hours while she shopped.

Security at the Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem, New Hampshire found the boy wandering around the Microsoft store by himself on Friday afternoon.

Surveillance video showed he had been there by himself for more than two hours. It wasn't until two hours later that police were able to locate the child's aunt, who is also his guardian.

The woman, Ana Matos, 45, told officers she had been looking for her nephew, but was unable to explain why she hadn't contacted mall security or the police.

She was also carrying three shopping bags containing more than $500 in clothing, which led police to believe she had been shopping and not looking for the lost child.

Matos was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
