New Bedford Police Investigate Two Attacks On Women

NEW BEDFORD (CBS) - New Bedford police are investigating two sexual assaults in the past week.

The first one involved a 30-year-old woman was attacked in the area of Brock Avenue.

The victim was getting out of her car near her home around 2 a.m. on Sunday, July 7, when a man walked up the street and grabbed her.

The victim told police she was pushed into the car and groped before she was able to fight off the attacker.

She was not injured.

The victim described the suspect as white with olive skin, around 5'8" with a medium build, dark colored hair, and brown eyes. He was wearing a black t-shirt and shorts.

A second incident happened Saturday, July 13, at about midnight.

Another 30-year-old woman victim was walking to her car on Hamilton Street when a man came up behind her, shoved her into her vehicle and fondled her.

As that victim fought back, the suspect punched her in the face and left scratches on her neck and facial area, according to police.

She was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect was about 5'8" with a clean shaven round face, stocky build, and a head that was almost shaved.

Police say the incidents have similarities. They're asking anyone with information to contact them.
