BELMONT, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire fire chief who helped triage 23 Boy Scouts who suffered burns from a lightning strike at the campground they were staying at says they were “incredibly calm” throughout their ordeal.

Belmont Fire Chief David Parenti said he was most concerned about six of the scouts whose burns encompassed the heart area.

He said he knows at least two of the six who were hospitalized have been released.

Scouts spokesman Greg Osborn says no one was directly hit by the lightning Monday at the Griswold Hidden Valley Scout Reservation.

He says some of the 23 scouts and three adults complained of tingling and burning sensations.

The lightning struck during a big evening storm just outside Belmont at Camp Bell — a rustic spot with campsites and no structures.
