Mother And Son Found Murdered In Belmont, NH Home

BELMONT, NH (CBS) - The peace of Lake Winnisquam was violently interrupted by the gruesome deaths of a mother and son inside a lakefront home in Belmont, New Hampshire.

Investigators say 59-year-old Priscilla Carter and her 39-year-old son Tim were killed from multiple chop wounds.

They had just rented the home a month ago.

"It's like really scary to be here, so close to home," said neighbor Christine Rector. "I don't trust anybody around here."

The bodies were discovered Friday, but investigators today could still be seen entering the home looking for evidence.

New Hampshire State Police tell WBZ-TV Mrs. Carter's other son Shawn, who also lived in the home, was taken into custody Friday in Tilton on other charges.

Tilton Police Chief Robert Cormier says his department was asked to be on the lookout for Shawn Carter on Friday. An officer spotted Carter in a 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo on Laconia Road. He was stopped, taken into custody and turned over to Belmont Police.

And while Carter has not been arrested in connection with the murders of his mother and brother, investigators say residents should not be fearful of a killer on the loose.

Police say they are questioning numerous people, and neighbors say investigators have gone door to door.

"He was asking if I knew the people, if I knew about the people, if I had been aware of anything," said neighbor Georgette Huckins.

The man who owns the home told WBZ-TV the Carters came with good references and while Tim cleaned up the property in exchange for a discount on the rent, Shawn was not as helpful and was on disability.
