Officer Shot In Bomb Suspect Gun Battle Moves To Rehab Hospital

BOSTON (AP) — The MBTA police officer who was critically injured in a shootout with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects has moved to a rehab hospital.

A hospital spokeswoman says Officer Richard Donohue was transferred to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston on Friday to continue his recovery.

Donohue, a three-year department veteran, spent nearly a month at a Cambridge hospital following a police gun battle in Watertown that fatally wounded one of the bombing suspects.

A Friday posting on a Facebook page dedicated to the 33-year-old officer's recovery celebrated the fact that Donohue was making progress.

It said his recovery had entered the second phase and he will now concentrate on building strength in his legs so he can prepare to go home.
