FBI Turns Boylston Street Back Over To The City Of Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- A week after the Boston Marathon bombings, the Federal Bureau Of Investigation has turned the crime scene over to the City Of Boston.

At 5 p.m. Monday, the FBI  presented Mayor Tom Menino with a commemorative American flag that has flown at half-staff over the Boston Marathon Finish line.

Now, the city will begin its 5-step plan to reopen the area to the public.

The 5-steps include testing the area for contamination, structural building assessments, removing debris, internal building assessments and re-entry including communication and counseling.

Makeshift memorials to the bombing victims will be moved to Copley Square Park.

Large message boards will be placed in the area so people can record their thoughts and reflections.
