Police Charge Londonderry Man Over Alleged Ax Attack

LONDONDERRY (CBS) - A Londonderry man faces charges for allegedly attacking his uncle with an ax during a fight.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon.

Police say Aaron McDermott, 33, struck Marc Vitti in the back and the elbow with the ax after Vitti had asked him to leave the house.

Vitti was not seriously injured.

McDermott was charged with assault, criminal threatening with a deadly weapon and criminal trespass.

He was also charged with obstructing a report of a crime or injury because, police say McDermott knocked the phone away from Vitti as he tried to call 911.

In addition, McDermott also faces drug charges after officers found what was believed to be heroin in the home.

He's being held on $50,000 cash bail until a probable cause hearing scheduled for Monday.
