Brookline Residents Want To Fine Nighttime Noisemakers

BROOKLINE (CBS) - A group of Brookline residents is taking its fight against nighttime noise to the streets.

They want to add on to a 2010 nuisance ordinance that currently allows police to break up noisy parties and to fine anyone involved.

The new proposal would allow police to fine noisy people in the streets.

Nancy Heller, a Town Meeting Member, says neighbors aren't looking to cause trouble, but they are tired of the noise.

"We're not interested in throwing people in jail certainly or getting people a criminal record. What we're interested in doing is saying to people, hey, be considerate," she said.

The proposal would also double the current fine for disorderly conduct to $100.
