TOWNSEND (CBS) – A man is in the hospital after a snowmobile accident in Townsend on Saturday night.

Officials say at around 7 p.m. a man was snowmobiling on a frozen pond off of South Street when he smashed into a tree.

The victim ended up in the middle of the pond, and rescue crews had to go out on the ice to retrieve him.

He was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities are not releasing the victim’s name as of Saturday night, and the crash is still under investigation.
