Phantom Gourmet: Chocolate Syrup Taste Test

BOSTON (CBS) - Phantom recently purchased four bottles of chocolate syrup at a local supermarket.

The sweet contenders were Eclipse, Fox's U-Bet, Hershey's and Nesquik.

Can you guess which one made its way to the top of the food chain?

Fox's U-Bet Finished in last place.

Founded in Brooklyn, New York, more than 100 years ago, this brand is seriously old school, even offering a recipe for an egg cream on the back of the bottle.

This syrup is surprisingly thick, but comes with an oddly gummy consistency that makes it difficult to mix into your milk.

Next up is Hershey's.

As the largest chocolate maker in North America, you probably have some of their products in your kitchen right now. But Phantom hopes that doesn't include their chocolate syrup.

This lackluster sauce starts off way too sweet, and ends with an acidic aftertaste that burned the back of Phantom's throat.

The runner up is Nesquik.

With a cartoon bunny on the bottle, it's obvious that this brand is a kid's favorite, but Phantom kind of likes it too.

The only entry not made with corn syrup, it's a little thin and watery but has a smooth chocolate flavor that blends nicely into a big glass of milk.

At the top of the food chain is Eclipse.

This Ocean State favorite offers up rich chocolate flavor and smooth luxurious mouth-feel.

It's great mixed into milk, poured over ice cream or straight off the spoon.

That's why Eclipse Chocolate Syrup is at the top of the food chain.
