Boston City Councilor To Host Annual St. Patrick's Day Breakfast

BOSTON (AP) — It's not an elected position, but it may be one of the city's most coveted political gigs.

Boston City Councilor Bill Linehan announced Tuesday that he will host the annual St. Patrick's Day Breakfast in South Boston. The event brings together the state's most powerful leaders and is famous for its political barbs and one-liners.

Linehan, who represents South Boston, succeeds Jack Hart as host of the breakfast. Hart recently left the state Senate to join a private law firm. Past hosts include former Senate President and University of Massachusetts president William Bulger.

Linehan calls the March 17 event an opportunity to "share fun, laughter, political banter and song."

Invitees include Gov. Deval Patrick, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and interim Sen. William "Mo" Cowan.
