Red Sox 'Truck Day' Has Arrived

BOSTON (CBS) – The temperature is below freezing and snow flurries are in the forecast, but the first sign of spring will warm up Boston just a little bit Tuesday afternoon.

That's right, it is Red Sox Truck Day.

Red Sox workers will load an 18-wheeler with all of the team's gear Tuesday morning before sending it on a 1,480-mile trip to the Boston's Spring Training complex in Fort Myers, Florida.

The truck will hold everything from bats and balls to golf clubs, and even toys for the players' kids. Players can have the truck bring pretty much anything they cannot get to Fort Myers on their own.

But it's not just what is inside that gets all the attention. The symbolism that Spring Training is just days away is what really warms people up to "Truck Day." Once Spring Training starts, the regular season is right around the corner.

The truck is expected to arrive at "Fenway South" in Fort Myers on Thursday, with pitchers and catchers scheduled to report over the weekend.

The first workout for pitchers and catchers is scheduled a week from today on February 12, with the first full-squad workout three days later on the 15th.

Boston's first spring training game is Thursday, February 21 with a double-header against Northeastern and Boston College, with the regular season beginning April 1 in New York against the Yankees.
