BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — A Newton man convicted of killing his brother-in-law in his Cape Cod vacation home has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Robert Upton was sentenced Friday in Barnstable Superior Court convicted following his conviction Thursday on a first-degree murder charge for the September 2009 shooting of 47-year-old Aris Manoloules (man-oh-LOO’-less) in Hyannis.
Prosecutors say the 48-year-old Upton was offered $165,000 to kill the victim by other members of the family. Prosecutors have said there was bad blood in the family over a multimillion dollar inheritance.
The victim’s nephew awaits trial. His brother has been acquitted of masterminding the killing.
The murder weapon was found in Upton’s girlfriend’s home.
Upton’s lawyer called the case “an unfortunate set of circumstances.”
