FITCHBURG (CBS) - For those who need an extra push getting outside on a snowy day, your motivation may come in the threat of a $200 fine if you don’t shovel your sidewalk.
The city ordinance was revised last summer to say residents who own property abutting a sidewalk have 48 hours to clear the sidewalk down to the pavement.
The head of Fitchburg Public Works Department just got a shipment of 500 notices from the printer. Those warnings will go on doorknobs across the city where snowy sidewalks abound.
But be on the lookout, even if you don’t receive a warning on your doorknob, police may still send you a violation in the mail.
Fitchburg Police say 20 people received violations for not shoveling their sidewalks down to the pavement in the first winter storm.
