Former State Rep. From Lawrence Arrested

LAWRENCE (CBS) -A former state representative and police sergeant was arrested Saturday for violating an abuse prevention order.

Chief John Romero said a warrant was out for Jose Santiago's arrest when he was seen outside of a club in Lawrence early Saturday morning. Santiago allegedly violated an abuse prevention order filed by his ex-girlfriend.

Santiago, 53, of Lawrence was fired from the Methuen police department in 2004 for refusing to take a retraining course at his own expense. He was also state representative in the 1990s, preceding Lantigua's term in the legislature, according to an article in the Lawrence Eagle Tribune.

Santiago was recently hired as a city worker by Mayor William Lantigua.

According to Romero, Santiago will be arraigned in Lawrence District Court on Monday.
