A neighbor said there was a house party going on at the time and a fight broke out.

"It was crazy, absolutely insane. There's screaming outside, my girlfriend tells me to get out there because we know people there. We go there and we see him on the ground. It's not something I wanted to see on the first day of the new year," Alex Breski told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

The victim was stabbed several times and taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he died.

His name has not been released.

Police have arrested a suspect in the case.

Brian MacDonald, 24, of Boston is charged with Murder.

A number of college students live in the area, but Breski doesn't think the victim was a student.

There were 58 murders in Boston in 2012 and 62 in 2011.
