NEWTON (CBS) – An early-morning crash sent the driver to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police and fire responded to 733 Beacon Street Sunday morning and found a truck wrapped around a tree.

The driver of the car was trapped and emergency crews had to use the Jaws of Life to remove him.

The driver was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, according to Newton Fire Department.

Newton Police are urging drivers to be careful on slippery roads and plan extra time to account for road conditions.

There is no word yet on whether there will be any citations. The driver of the truck has not been identified.
