One person was killed in a crash early Tuesday morning in Malden. (CBS)
MALDEN (CBS) – A 17-year-old from Woburn was killed early Tuesday morning after the car she was driving hit a pole and went up in flames.
The accident happened at 3:29 a.m. at the intersection of Medford and John streets.
The passenger in the car, a 19-year-old also from Woburn, was taken to Mass. General Hospital with severe burns.
Police believe speed was a factor as the car hit a pole and curbing on the side of a house. Police say there were no signs of alcohol or drugs.
The passenger in the car got out on her own with her clothing on fire, according to police.
Police say nearby residents helped her to safety.
Police have not identified the driver or passenger, saying only that they were friends.
