After that 90 days is up, John Burbine, 49, would have to post $1 million bail in order to be released.

Prosecutors say Burbine abused at least 13 children ranging in age from eight days old to three-and-a-half years old.

He also allegedly videotaped the acts.

"The defendant was brought into the homes of these children by their parents to protect, care for, and keep them safe; and in fact violated them in every way possible," Assistant District Attorney Katelyn Draper told a judge in Middlesex Superior Court on Wednesday.

Burbine's attorney says his client has been shuttled from jail to jail since his arrest in September. Burbine has been threatened behind bars. When asked if Burbine was on suicide watch, his attorney confirmed that he has been under "close observation."

Police say Burbine gained access to his alleged victims through his wife's child care business. The business was run out of an office in downtown Wakefield. It was called Waterfall Education Center.
