Celtics Send Melo, Joseph To Maine Red Claws

BOSTON (CBS) - After riding the bench for the first seven games of the young NBA season, the Boston Celtics have assigned center Fab Melo and forward Chris Joseph to the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League.

Both rookies were drafted out of Syracuse in the 2012 NBA draft, but saw little or no action once the regular season rolled around.

Melo appeared in all eight of the Celtics preseason games, but has yet to make his NBA debut with Boston. Joseph played three minutes against the Bucks in the Celtics' November 2 loss at the Garden, logging one rebound and one assist in his time on the floor.

The move will allow the rookies to get some playing time in with Maine, with neither of them likely to enter Doc Rivers' rotation any time soon.

Melo and Joseph will become teammates of Rivers' son, Jeremiah, who signed with the Red Claws prior to the season.
