Trial Begins In Case Of Gunned Down Murder Witness In Boston
BOSTON (AP) — Opening statements in the trial of a Boston man accused of gunning down another man as he sat on a porch are expected in Suffolk Superior Court.
The trial of 20-year-old Lavonrence Perkins is schedule to start Monday.
Perkins is charged with first-degree murder in the May 2010 shooting death of 22-year-old Cordell McAfee.
Prosecutors say McAfee was sitting on the porch of city home when two gunmen in light-colored hooded sweat shirts approached and opened fire. McAfee was struck twice and died of his injuries. A second man on the porch was not injured.
McAfee was a prosecution witness in the trial of men accused of killing 10-year-old Trina Persad in 2002. Prosecutors say there is no evidence that McAfee's death is tied to the Persad case.
