WHITMAN (CBS) – An Attleboro driver has been charged in a tragic crash that killed a man and injured a little girl in Whitman last month.

Forty-six-year-old Richard Brown was charged with motor vehicle homicide and speeding Friday in connection with the accident on Temple Street September 9.

Police say Brown hit Edward Cordwell with his pickup truck as Cordwell was crossing the street with his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter.

Witnesses say Cordwell, 38, was able to push the girl out of the way and save her life.

Brown stopped after the crash.  The Registry of Motor Vehicles suspended his license immediately after the accident.
