Red Sox Announce Ticket Prices Won't Go Up For 2013 Season
BOSTON (CBS) -- Coming off one of the most disappointing seasons in franchise history, the Boston Red Sox announced Monday that ticket prices would stay at the 2012 rate for next season.
"It was abundantly clear this year that we should hold the line on ticket prices," Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino said in an email from the team. "Over the past few years, we have fallen short of our goals to play postseason baseball. Through it all, fans have shown their deep loyalty and support, for which we are all grateful. Our commitment to winning is as strong as it has ever been, and we look forward to the challenge of bringing our fans the winning and entertaining baseball team they richly deserve."
The Red Sox extended their sellout streak at Fenway Park this season, despite the definition of "sellout" coming under fire from many fans and media outlets.
Though ticket prices won't be rising, they remain rather pricey. The Sox had the most expensive tickets in baseball in 2012, with an average price of $53.38. That was nearly $2 more than the Yankees ($51.55) and over $9 more than the Chicago Cubs ($46.30). After the Cubs, there is a rather drastic dropoff, with the Phillies' fourth-most expensive tickets in baseball costing an average of $37.42.
The Red Sox say their sellout streak stretches back to May 2003.
