NEWPORT, R.I. (CBS) – Police in Newport, Rhode Island found a stolen SUV abandoned in a very strange place on Friday.
The Jeep turned up on the side of a cliff by Newport’s famed 40 Steps.
Newport police Lt. William Fitzgerald told WPRI-TV the thief likely was trying to dump the SUV into the ocean in order to get rid of it.
Tow trucks were trying to pull the vehicle out, but there were concerns that the removal could damage some of the rocks that make up 40 Steps.
There’s no word on any arrests.
