BOSTON (CBS) — On the final night of the Red Sox season, manager Bobby Valentine can know it will be his last on the job.
According to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, Valentine will be fired shortly after the season ends. The report said that Valentine will be fired either Thursday or Friday this week, after the team wraps up its season in the Bronx on Wednesday night.
It’s certainly not surprising news, considering the Red Sox entered play Wednesday with a 69-92 record, tied for sixth-worst in all of baseball. Valentine took over a team in the winter that looked poised to contend for a World Series but never recovered from a slow start in April.
Heyman asked Red Sox general manager about Valentine being fired this week, and Cherington replied, “No comment,” via text.
