Man, 75, Hit By Vehicle In NH Parking Lot, Dies

CHESTER, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire police say a driver backing up in a store parking lot hit the gas instead of the brake, pinning a 75-year-old man into an ice cooler and ultimately killing him.

State police say Derry resident Robert Young was walking into Your Variety Store in Chester on Saturday afternoon. A 45-year-old Chester woman in a large SUV was backing up at the time and saw Young. Police say she went to hit the brakes but instead pressed the gas pedal, striking the man.

Young was taken to the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital to be examined.

Police are investigating the crash.
