I495 Southbound In Methuen Shut Down After Deadly Crash

METHUEN (CBS) – One person was killed in a crash on I-495 in Methuen Friday afternoon.

The southbound side of the road was shut down for three and a half hours as accident reconstruction teams investigated.

The crash happened around 3:00 p.m.

State Police say 35-year-old Jeffrey Plante of Newburyport was traveling north on I-495 when his car crossed into the median, went airborne, and crashed into a car driven by 32-year-old Kurt Kelly of Westford who was traveling south.

Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene. Plante was taken by helicopter to Boston Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

There were two more vehicles involved in the crash but there were no other injuries.

Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
