BOSTON (CBS) – Massachusetts is celebrating Car-Free Week. It’s a week where the state encourages everyone to find a different way of getting to work.

This time around, state leaders are taking part too. Governor Deval Patrick joked about last year when WBZ-TV cameras caught him driving to work during Car-Free Week.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030′s Carl Stevens reports

“I remember last year,” Patrick said with a smile. “It works for a lot of people, not everybody. It works for me today and I’m going to be taking the T.”

On Monday the governor walked from his Milton home to the Mattapan trolley stop, and then took the Red Line to Park Street.

Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray took the Commuter Rail from Worcester.

The week is an extension of World Car-Free Day, an annual event which has quickly spread to over 1,000 cities in 40 countries around the globe.
