HOLYOKE (CBS) – A hiker was reportedly bitten by a venomous snake on Saturday in the western part of the state.
The victim was walking on Mt. Tom in Holyoke when a copperhead snake bit him, according to WWLP-TV.
The man who was bitten managed to get the snake into a bag so authorities could identify it.
The victim was treated at a Springfield hospital.
His condition was not immediately clear. Bites from copperhead snakes, while venomous, are usually considered mild, and are almost never deadly.
