Seekonk Middle School Teacher Arrested

SEEKONK (CBS) - A Seekonk middle school teacher has resigned and is facing charges on suspicion of enticing a child under the age of 16 and accosting and annoying a person of the opposite sex.

Police arrested Marco Correia, 27, on Friday.

Correia had been an English teacher and the basketball coach at the Hurley Middle School.

The interim superintendent says someone filed a complaint about Correia a few weeks ago and he resigned shortly after being placed on administrative leave.

Correia had been a teacher at the school since 2007.

When told of the allegations today, parents reacted with disgust. "We send our children to school, thinking they'll be safe," said one man, "and this guy is someone we're supposed to trust."

Another said, "they just had an incident like that in Taunton a few months ago. People think they can use the internet or cell phones for that stuff, and get away with it."

Police would not give any details of the investigation, or how far the relationship may have gone.

WBZ-TV's Bill Shields contributed to this report.
