Elderly Driver Pleads Not Guilty To Running Over Motorcyclist In Melrose

MALDEN (CBS) – An elderly driver accused of running over a motorcyclist several times in Melrose is free on $300 bail.

Eugene Ledonne, 76, of Stoneham, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Malden District Court to charges of assault with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to court documents, he hit the motorcyclist at a red light on Main Street Sunday morning, knocking the him off the cycle.

Witnesses told police Ledonne drove over the victim, backed up and then drove over him again.

He then got out of his car, said "I'm sorry" and took off, according to the documents.

The motorcyclist was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

His name and condition have not been released.

Ledonne was set free Tuesday after posting bail. He is not allowed to speak to the victim and is not allowed to drive.

He's due back in court September 26th.

Ledonne had no comment leaving court and was shielded from the media by his relatives.
