39 Dolphins Safe After Stranding On Eastham Beach

EASTHAM (CBS) - Thirty-nine dolphins that beached themselves on an Eastham beach Saturday were able to get back out to sea when the tide came in, according to the International Fund for Animal Welfare's Marine Mammal Rescue team.

The IFAW said rescuers had been attempting earlier to herd the dolphins out to sea after they were spotted in shallow waters close to Wellfleet.

A team of IFAW rescuers responded to the beach after reports of the stranding, but the group says the tide had come in and the animals had managed to free themselves by that time.

There have been a series of dolphin strandings on the Cape over the past few weeks.
