BOSTON (CBS) – There is still no update on the status of right guard Brian Waters.
And Patriots head coach Bill Belichick must be getting a little tired saying that.
“I don’t have any comment on that,” Belichick said Thursday morning in a conference call with the media. “I’ll just say that on any personnel decisions, whatever they are, we’ll always do what we feel is best for the football team.”
Belichick has been asked on a weekly basis — sometimes more often — for an update on Waters, who was a Pro Bowler in his first season in New England last year. He signed a week before the season, and ended up playing a major role on the Patriots offensive line throughout the year.
Mike Reiss Talks Brian Waters On 5th Quarter:
Waters is under contract, but has yet to report. Reports have him still in Texas with his family, but ESPNBoston’s Mike Reiss says Waters still has a locker at Gillette.
The 35-year-old would give the Patriots another big body on the line, which in turn would give them more depth at a very key position.
The Patriots open the regular season against the Tennessee Titans on September 9.
